Great to hear that you started using SasView!
The programming is not strictly required, however, it is meant to build a community able to contribute to SasView in a number of ways  (https://www.sasview.org/contribute/)
The one potential case to learn from the contributor camp would be to develop a plugin model and then use this knowledge to review the documentation of SasView models.
